Coaching Philosophy

Judy Heller has changed and shaped the way people think about walking for the past 13 years. One of the region's foremost experts on walking, Heller is a well-known fitness and walking coach and a master racewalker, who has trained hundreds of people and organized some of the region's most respected recreational and competitive walking events.


Biography

Judy Heller is an American Council on Exercise (ACE) personal trainer and USATF coach. Heller is the founder of Wonders of Walking® offering walk trainings, events and clubs. Judy is a contributing writer to Walk About Magazine, and cited in fitness and walking articles for Prevention, Shape, Family Circle, Weight Watchers and Fitness magazine. Heller is a previous coach for the Arthritis Foundation’s, Joints In Motion and American Diabetes Association Team D. Providing walk and run coaching for marathon locations including: Kona, Rome, Dublin, Bermuda, Las Vegas, Florida, Disney and Portland. She is the coordinator of the Racewalk and Nordic Walk Divisions of the Portland Marathon and 5-Miler; co-founder of the NW Regional Racewalk Retreat; Heller is a master racewalker.

Walking has finally hit its stride with Wonders of Walking (WOW), an organization developed by walkers offering a series of events specifically for walkers. Wonders of Walking celebrates the health benefits, the competitive opportunities and the recreational aspect of walking.

Wonders of Walking recognizes the fact that if exercise isn't fun or enjoyable, most people simply won't do it. That's why the focus of Wonders of Walking is on the journey, not just the finish line. And whether you're a racewalker or a wanderer, Wonders of Walking brings walkers events that celebrate seeing, doing, experiencing and enjoying at a pace that's comfortable for nearly everyone.
